Reese Witherspoon to direct adaptation of In A Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware
Reese Witherspoon’s film company, Pacific Standard, and New Line Cinema have acquired film rights to In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware!
Anyone who’s been paying attention this summer will realise why we’re so excited about this brilliant news – we absolutely adored Ruth’s debut psychological thriller and knew it was going to be big as soon as we read it. It tells the story of a hen party that goes horribly wrong: someone is getting married, and someone is getting murdered.
New Line Cinema acquired the film rights from the Gotham Group, which will produce with Pacific Standard, the company Witherspoon formed with Bruna Papandrea. Ellen Goldsmith-Vein will produce for The Gotham Group, while Witherspoon and Papandrea will produce for Pacific Standard. The duo have produced films including Gone Girl, Wild and Hot Pursuit together so we’re expecting big things.
In a Dark, Dark Wood will be published in 14 languages with rights sold to publishers in the US, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Turkey, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Rep, Russia, Croatia, Thailand, and rights are currently under offer in Brazil.
