Everything we know about The Night Agent series 3

Sometimes, a TV show comes along that just pops. Something about it captures the public’s imagination, turning it into a stone-cold hit – and fast. The Night Agent is one such show.

Netflix’s action thriller, based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, wasted no time becoming a breakout success. With its winning combination of high-stakes espionage, political intrigue and thrilling action set pieces, it keeps audiences hooked.

With series 2 now streaming, many fans are already asking: will there be a The Night Agent series 3? Well, spoiler alert – the answer is yes! Netflix has officially renewed the series for a third outing.

So, The Night Agent is definitely returning for series 3?

Absolutely. Netflix has confirmed that the spy thriller will be back. The announcement came with the following statement from showrunner Shawn Ryan:

“We’re so excited to bring new thrills, new worlds, new stunts, new characters, and new adventures to our fans in season 3,” Ryan told Netflix’s Tudum.

“We’ll be spanning the globe – from Istanbul to New York, Washington, D.C., and Mexico City. Even though we’ve just started filming, we’ve already captured some of our biggest, most spectacular moments yet. Thanks so much for devouring season 2, and we look forward to bringing you a bigger and even better season 3.”

Given the show’s popularity and Netflix’s investment in high-profile action thrillers, it’s no surprise that the streamer is going all-in on The Night Agent and expanding the franchise.

Who’s in the cast for The Night Agent series 3?

Unsurprisingly, Gabriel Basso returns as Peter Sutherland. The now-recognisable faces of Fola Evans-Akingbola, Ward Horton and Albert Jones will also reprise their roles – this time as series regulars.

New faces joining series 3 include: Stephen Moyer (True Blood), David Lyons (ER), Jennifer Morrison (House), Genesis Rodriguez (The Umbrella Academy), Callum Vinson (Chucky) and Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi).

Fans can expect the newcomers to bring fresh dynamics and challenges to the next series. While details about their roles remain under wraps for now, speculation is already building about whether these characters will be allies, enemies, or – given this is the spy genre – something in-between.

Plot: What can we expect from The Night Agent series 3?

Series 1 ended with Peter stepping into his new role as a fully-fledged Night Agent, setting the stage for more dangerous missions. Series 2 expanded the show’s political thriller elements, introduced new global threats and significantly raised the stakes for its lead character – perfectly positioning the story for a third series.

Throughout series 2, Peter committed acts of treason and even stole from the UN (all for the greater good, of course…). Series 3 will have to deal with the fallout, ensuring he finds a way back into the fold somehow.

With production spanning multiple international locations, as Shawn Ryan hinted, the expanded setting suggests a more global narrative, laying the groundwork for an even bigger story.

Some fan theories suggest that the upcoming season might delve deeper into the personal lives of the characters, offering a mix of intense action and emotional depth. Will Peter be forced to go fully rogue? Will Rose Larkin return in a more prominent role? These are just some of the questions that fans hope to see answered.

What have the creators and cast said about series 3?

The confirmation of a third series has been met with excitement from the cast and crew. And little wonder. Shawn Ryan’s statement makes it clear that they aim to top previous seasons with even bigger and better action sequences and new characters.

Gabriel Basso has spoken about his enthusiasm for the role: “I love playing Peter because he’s not just an action hero. He’s a guy thrown into crazy situations who has to figure them out on the fly. I’d be more than happy to keep going as long as the story stays fresh.”

Luciane Buchanan has also hinted at her hopes for the future of the series: “The stakes just keep getting higher. Every season, we push the limits a little more, and it’s exciting to see where things go next.”

When could The Night Agent series 3 be released?

With filming already underway, The Night Agent series 3 could arrive sooner than expected. Series 2 is available to stream now, and given Netflix’s typical turnaround for big-budget series, a third series might debut in late 2025 or early 2026.

With the series being a high priority for Netflix, the goal will likely be to shorten the wait between seasons as much as possible. Our best guess? Expect The Night Agent to return within the year.

Meanwhile, fans eager for more The Night Agent content can revisit the first two series or dive into Matthew Quirk’s original novel. And with Netflix’s track record of expanding hit franchises, could a spin-off or prequel be in the works? Only time will tell…
