Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club Books in Order
Looking for Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club books in order? Look no further!
From one of television’s best-loved presenters and producers comes one of the most exciting, refreshing, original and fun new crime series that we’ve seen in some time.
The first book, The Thursday Murder Club, introduces four eighty-year-old friends – Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron – who meet up in their retirement village once a week to investigate unsolved murders, only to find themselves on the hunt for a killer who’s struck much closer to home. What follows is a clever, witty and heart-warming story that doesn’t fail to delight. This is contemporary crime fiction with a classic and quintessentially British twist, penned by a true crime fan and executed to perfection. We can’t recommend it enough!
The most recent book in the Thursday Murder Club series is The Last Devil to Die (2023), with book 5 heading our way in 2025.
Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club books in order:
The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman
1. The Thursday Murder Club (2020)
In a peaceful retirement village off the A21 in Kent, four unlikely friends meet up once a week to investigate unsolved murders. But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case.
Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron might be pushing eighty but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves.
Can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer before it’s too late?
The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman
2. The Man Who Died Twice (2021)
It’s the following Thursday. Elizabeth has received a letter from an old colleague, a man with whom she has a long history. He’s made a big mistake, and he needs her help. His story involves stolen diamonds, a violent mobster, and a very real threat to his life.
As bodies start piling up, Elizabeth enlists Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron in the hunt for a ruthless murderer. And if they find the diamonds too? Well, wouldn’t that be a bonus?
But this time they are up against an enemy who wouldn’t bat an eyelid at knocking off four septuagenarians. Can the Thursday Murder Club find the killer (and the diamonds) before the killer finds them?
The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman
3. The Bullet That Missed (2022)
It’s an ordinary Thursday, and things should finally be returning to normal. Except trouble is never far away where the Thursday Murder Club are concerned. A local news legend is on the hunt for a sensational headline, and soon the gang are hot on the trail of two murders, ten years apart.
To make matters worse, a new nemesis pays Elizabeth a visit, presenting her with a deadly mission: kill or be killed…
While Elizabeth grapples with her conscience (and a gun), the gang and their unlikely new friends (including TV stars, money launderers and ex-KGB colonels) unravel a new mystery. But can they catch the culprit and save Elizabeth before the murderer strikes again?
The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman
4.The Last Devil to Die (2023)
You’d think you would be allowed to relax over Christmas, but not in the world of the Thursday Murder Club. On Boxing Day, a dangerous package is smuggled across the English coast. When it goes missing, chaos is unleashed. The body count starts to rise – including someone close to the Thursday Murder Club – as our gang face an impossible search and their most deadly opponents yet.
With the clock ticking down and a killer heading to Cooper’s Chase, has their luck finally run out? And who will be ‘The Last Devil To Die’?

I’m over 80 and my beloved died three months ago. I’ve been getting through the days binge reading murder mysteries. First, I read all Ron Base and Pru Emery’s excellent Savoy mysteries. Then I binged on Louise Penny’s outstanding Inspector Gamache series, 18 books so far. I didn’t think I would find anything to surpass either while I wait for them to write the next books in their series. But I discovered Richard’s Thursday Murder Club and honestly he beats them all! I have all four books, have just finished the first one and laughed all the way through it. Now onto the next one! Bravo, Mr Osman.
Just read the first book absolutely brilliant looking forward to book 2 and then the rest
Both my wife and I love these books very much and we are very excited for the fourth installment, we wonder who will play these in the fourth-coming movie/film?
Hello I have the second book but not the first and I don’t want to spoil it for myself, my question is do I need to read the first book to enjoy the second?
I am listening to the Bullet that Missed and agree, Lesley Manville was fantastic while Steph McGovern is good. And it’s a sad day when good isn’t okay; Book 3 is still wonderful, but the narrator slips into what sounds like an East Indian cadence when she is performing “the Viking” and it’s a bit jarring. Still well worth the listen and if she’s back for Book 4 I’ll be listening (though I much prefer Manville).
Listening to the audiobook production of the first book and loving it. Lesley Manville does the narration magnificently. I’m happy to see that she also does the second one but disappointed that she does not do the third.
I loved Book 3. The new characters are great, and I hope a couple of them continue into the Book 4. The plot had some great surprises and I found myself chuckling on numerous pages. Hurry with the next one… I miss them already.
I have read all 3 books and I have a serious complaint……Richard, you need to add at least 100 pages, as each book is only taking 3/4 days to read……can’t put the damned book down !!
Loved the books but oh where is Leslie Manville????? In the third book.

Gave up waiting on the first and so delved into the second via audiobook. It is absolutely delightful and has me frequently giggling out loud. Leslie Manville does a stellar job as the reader. I admire her as an actor and am delighted that she is doing audiobooks!
I have read both books and I love, love, love them. Impatiently waiting for the next book. 🙂
Fantastic book, enjoyed every minute. I kept wondering who could play them in a TV series, plenty of vintage actors about.
I’ve read both and am so disappointed there isn’t a third. Hopefully, soon.
A really brilliant read. Funny and a real page turner. Hopefully the first of many in this series.
