Who's Who
Who’s Who in And Then There Were None
Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None is the bestselling crime novel of all time and was recently voted the world’s favourite Christie. This Christmas, for the first time, it will air as a lavish adaptation on BBC One.
Brilliantly plotted, And Then There Were None sees ten strangers drawn away from their normal lives to an isolated island off the Devon coast. But as the mismatched group waits for the arrival of their hosts – the improbably named Mr and Mrs U.N. Owen – the weather sours and they find themselves cut off from civilisation. Very soon, the guests, each struggling with their conscience, begin to die one by one, according to the rules of the nursery rhyme ‘Ten Little Soldier Boys’ – a rhyme which hangs in every room of the house and ends with the most terrifying words of all: ‘…and then there were none.’
The cast of And Then There Were None
Justice Wargrave (Charles Dance)
A decrepit judge.
A recently retired judge, known as a “hanging judge” for liberally awarding the death penalty in different murder cases. Justice Wargrave has a commanding personality which makes him the natural leader of the group.
Vera Claythorne (Maeve Dermody)
A secretive governess.
A cool, efficient, resourceful former governess who has taken mostly summer secretarial jobs since her last job as a governess ended in tragedy. Brought to the island as a secretary for Mrs Owen, Vera is deeply affected by the events as they start to unfold.
Emily Brent (Miranda Richardson)
A god-fearing spinster.
A religiously rigid, elderly spinster who accepted the invitation to the island for a holiday – largely due to financial constraints. Emily reads her bible every day and is firm in her beliefs and convictions of innocence.
Philip Lombard (Aidan Turner)
A remorseless mercenary.
An Irish mercenary with a shady past, Philip arrives on the island carrying a gun. There isn’t much he wouldn’t do for money and he has a blatant disregard for human life. He’s very resourceful but with one weakness – his chivalrous attitude toward women.
Dr. Edward Armstrong (Toby Stephens)
An unhinged Harley Street doctor.
At first glance a priggish, arrogant, conceited Harley Street doctor responsible for the death of a patient – Louisa Mary Clees – after he operated on her while drunk many years earlier.
William Blore (Burn Gorman)
A private investigator.
A former police inspector and now a private investigator, previously accused of falsifying his testimony in court after taking a bribe from a criminal gang. Blore is a well-built man whose experience often inspires others to look to him for advice.
Thomas Rogers (Noah Taylor)
A duplicitous servant.
A dangerous and duplicitous fellow skilled at presenting a fawning, subservient image to his masters while plotting away against them downstairs. The house butler engaged by the mysterious Mr Owen, he dominates his wife Ethel, the house cook.
Ethel Rogers (Anna Maxwell Martin)
A frail housekeeper.
The cook/housekeeper and Thomas Rogers’ wife, Ethel is a pale and ghostlike woman who walks in mortal fear. Dominated by a bullying husband.
General MacArthur (Sam Neill)
A guilt-ridden general.
A retired World War I war hero haunted by his past. Accused of sending a lieutenant to his death on a doomed mission, General MacArthur is guilt-ridden and introspective, spending his time staring out to sea.
Anthony Marston (Douglas Booth)
A reckless playboy.
A rich, athletic, handsome youth, Anthony Marston arrives on the island boasting about how he drove at astonishing speeds in his motor car to be the first arrival. Later revelations prove that his reckless driving has already caused tragedy.

Brilliant serialisation. Happy it did not follow the film of the 60’s (?) where we did not get left with none, the two lovebirds escaped. It has to be true to the book or it wastes the whole story.
Very bleak, dark and paranoic. No happy endings here.
SPOILER ALERT!!!
Why does the (only) eye candy have to disappear so early? Very disappointing.
I will be watching if it comes to the States!
