Bond’s most outlandish movie moments
James Bond 007 is the very epitome of cool. A cool, calm, suave and sophisticated gentleman who works as a spy and has a little black book that’s more of a tome in size. So when we encounter some of the more outlandish movie moments it looks even more peculiar than it would if it had happened to anyone else. But there have been a few of these moments over the years.
Let’s run through some of the most unbelievable moments from Bond’s film history…
Bond’s Most Outlandish Film Moments
Bond dresses up like a clown to defuse a bomb in Octopussy
There’s a nuclear bomb in a circus on a US Air Force base. It’s about to explode, but the world needn’t worry, our hero is on the case. In order to slip in undetected to defuse it, Bond must dress up like a clown. Seriously. With a red nose and everything. And it’s not a strong look.
Bond doesn’t like The Beatles
While seducing a lady in Goldfinger, Bond insists on chilling their Champagne before drinking. As he does so he shows a remarkable level of indifference to the sixties’ coolest, and most British, band – The Beatles. “My dear girl, there are some things that just aren’t done, such as drinking Dom Perignon ’53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s just as bad as listening to The Beatles without earmuffs!” In 1964, that’s seriously uncool.
Bond turns Japanese in You Only Live Twice
As part of a ruse to disguise himself as a native when stalking SPECTRE in Japan, Connery finds himself in full make-up, wig, false eyebrows and local garb. And it’s every bit as bad as it sounds.
The insanely daft fire truck chase scene in A View To A Kill
Roger Moore’s Bond is involved in a particularly high octane chase in this fairly dodgy outing. The scene’s very well choreographed, but it’s just so daft. Sporting a very un-Bond-like leather bomber jacket, 007 spends some of the chase hanging limply from a ladder for some of the action. Very odd.
007 makes a quiche!
A View To a Kill is without doubt the silliest of all the Bond films to date. The film’s most embarrassing moment, though? While there are a few, but the scene that sees our hero preparing a quiche has to top everything. Unbelievable – although it does look pretty tasty.
Bond in a skirt
Alright, alright, so it’s a kilt. And we know that JB is technically Scottish, but to see him wearing something other than a sharp suit always grates. And while he’s made a few fashion faux pas in his time (Roger Moore’s safari suits, we’re looking at you), the kilt in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service really stands out as a sartorial shocker.
Bond hopscotches crocodiles in Live and Let Die
The weirdly Blaxploitation-tinted Live and Let Die sees 007 snatched and taken to a crocodile farm to be eaten in typically elaborate Bond-murdering plot style. Cue his dramatic escape including this bizarre reptile jumping scene that needs to be seen to be believed.
